For me, Ari, the Castelli Series #4 road race in Prospect Park finished early. After 1.5 laps out of 5 in the cat 4/5, I got a flat as a piece of glass stuck to my tire. Hung in well with the field until this point, staying in the top 20 out of 55 or so. I was hoping for a more glamorous display of wearing my Road National Championship jersey for the first time during a road race. But, hey, this is part of racing.
There are two lessons to be learned though. One, before each ride I will check my tires to make sure that nothing is stuck to them and, two, I will try to watch out more for glass near benches and park entry/exit areas. Not sure whether either of these would have helped today though.
Overall, this was a fast race. Max hang with the front the group for a lap but then got dropped. He continued to race strong until the end. Definitely the youngest rider in the field — kid is so lucky that he starts racing cat 4/5s already.
Looking forward now to the next race, the CRCA Club Race in Central Park tomorrow (and here’s our blog post).
