Star Track Cycling at Prospect Park Road Race 12 Aug 2023

The Castelli Series #5 at Prospect Park was a lot of fun. There were a lot of people there and it was very exciting. The night before the race we slept really well. Also, that morning we ate well – oatmeal with raisins. We were prepared!

Our Star Track teammate Avery joined Ari and me for the Cat 4/5 with about 45 other riders. We raced for five laps for 27 km in total.

The race was very fast. I could stay in the pack for the first lap but then the pace picked up tremendously on the second lap on the hill. Ari said it was one of the hardest parts of the race. Shortly after that, I and two others were trying to catch up to the field. We could still see them for another half lap but then the three of us got separated. We three rode for a half lap together, but then I got dropped and was riding solo for the rest of the race. When you get dropped you have to do so much extra work because in the middle of the field it feels like there is no wind.

Ari had a really good race until the final hill on the last lap. On the hill, he was near the front but then a rider clipped a wheel, swiveled into another rider that swerved into Ari and fell in front of him. This forced Ari to break hard and he nearly come to a full stop. Ari still managed to catch up to the field and finished top 20 in the field sprint.

The results for this race are listed here.
