North Woodmere Crit

Star Track Cycling at North Woodmere Crit 22 Jul 2023

This was our first time racing the North Woodmere Crit and I believe it’s the first time a race was organized on this course thanks to Alex from Verrazano Team Racing. The course is used by fire departments to train and it’s a two corner crit where each lap is about 0.9km long. It’s very close to the JFK airport and one could see airplanes closeup when they were landing.

Our Star Track teammates Avery, Daniel, Julian, and Logan joined Max and me and we all raced the Cat 4/5 which was lasted for 45 min. In total there were 22 riders in our field. The race was very fast and technical as the two turns were fairly narrow at high speeds. A group of three got away on the third lap, the preme, and these three stayed together for the remainder of the race and even lapped the field. The rest of us were mostly staying together. I made an attack in the middle of the race but it didn’t stick though it helped keep the speed up.

I finished 12th place and Max 19th. This race really helped me finetune cornering in a pack and being more efficient with my power as I stayed in the front of my group where there’s less surging. Definitely want to come back to the next one, particularly since Alex let’s juniors race for free.

The last two pictures below were taken by Victor Chan. Lot’s of awesome race photos are on his One Imaging Photography webpage.
