This was our first time to be back at the Kissena Velodrome this year and the season opened with the Kissena 6 Days race series. It was awesome to be back at the track and see everyone again – 120 registered and all were ready to go! Some people talked at the beginning and Christine D’ercole gave a speech too and said that she would cover the registration fees for everyone! All were cheering!
Max and I were in the U13 field with three of our Star Track teammates, Desmond, Lucien, and Viv. The rest of our older teammates that were there raced the Cat 5 field except Jayden who competed with the 1/2/3.
When we raced, it felt so good to get back on the track. I was certainly tired of riding on the trainer 24/7. For the races, we all had two 1.6km scratch races and one 3.6km points race. The points race was hard but we knew it was good training. Coach Dave wanted us to go hard! We all want to get a jersey for winning the 6-day race series. Especially because this year all our races would go on our USA Cycling license.
Once our races were finished everyone was happy with their results. Max got 2nd for the omnium even though he initially thought he finished 3d after Lucien. I had a very good day and won all races, even each of the three points laps. I think I’ll be racing the Cat 5 field next time. Jaden had a great day as well in the 1/2/3 field and won some money.
Our team also started a fundraiser with a bake sale so that all our Star Track teammates that want to go to Track National in California in July can. Max and I planned to do a video to raise some funds but ran out of time which made my dad mad because he prepared everything. Will do this next time. If you want to help as well, you can do so here.
This race was a great season opener and showed how our hard work throughout the winter paid off. Can’t wait for the remaining five races of the series at the Kissena Velodrome.
