Star Track Cycling at Central Park Road Race 9 Mar 2024

Max, our Star Track teammate Viv, and I raced the the CRCA Club Race #2 in Central Park. Max and Viv were in the 5-lap / 50km C-group and I raced the 6-lap / 60km B-field. Max finished 16th/21 and I got 28th/45. Viv came in before Max but strangely his result wasn’t recorded.

My race was hard. There were a lot of attacks and the group went hard on the hills. There were many teams with many riders which made the race very dynamic. My goal in this race was to experiment with making moves and staying towards the front of the pack. I managed to join several breakaways and on the second lap I even went off the front solo for about 2 km. Unfortunately, this and other breakaways I joined didn’t stick but I still learned a lot from trying. The big positive was that I was staying towards the front in the pack and this made my power less spikey and helped me conserve energy. Nonetheless, the attacks tired me out and I did not have much to give for the sprint finish. Overall, my 28th/45 finish is not the best placement I could get, but I still learned more from this race by not sitting in the pack the entire time.

Max and Viv did really well in their race, both staying mid-pack at the start of race. On the second lap, there were several attacks which Max helped chase down and at one point he attacked too and was off the front for a while. The attacks continued on the third lap and after a particularly hard one right after Harlem Hill, Max became tired and got dropped. For the remainder of the race, Viv and Max worked in a group of five until about 250 meters before the finish. Max sprinted hard but with 100 meters left to go, he was completely done and had nothing more to give.

Max recorded his race with a GoPro front and rear camera and the entire footage can be found on our YouTube channel here.
