This CRCA Club Race in Central Park was one of Max and my hardest. Our Star Track teammates Daniel and Julian joined us as well. It was a 7 lap (69 km) race in pouring rain for most of the time.
For me, Ari, I finished 16 out of 28 racers. I’m proud of this result because this was my second Cat-4-only race and this time I didn’t get dropped, coming in 7 seconds behind the winner. During the race, I tried to draft and save as much energy as possible. Although drafting was efficient, it was also risky because everyone was slipping on the road which can cause crashes. I made sure that I wasn’t boxed in any way so I could avoid crashes. Nonetheless, the field felt very safe.
Max had a really hard race. He was hanging off the back, playing it safe. This took a lot of his energy. He also felt that his brakes weren’t reacting well in the rain. Max pulled out of the race after two laps. Still a great result for a 10-year-old racing in pouring rain in a Cat 4 field.
